Regular Exercise And Weight Training Prevents Or Slow The Development Of Type 2 Diabetes
It becomes clearer every day that overweight and obesity has led to an unprecedented epidemic in type 2 diabetes and 70% of the people with diabetes die of heart and blood vessel disease.
The only way to stop this epidemic is to start exercising. It does not matter if you use a treadmill machine, elliptical machine or just walking the dog.
According to the American Heart Association:
To reduce their cardiovascular risk, people with type 2 diabetes should do at least two-and-a-half hours per week of moderate-intensity or one-and-a-half hours per week of vigorous-intensity aerobic exercises, plus some weight training
It is clinically proven that through diet and regular exercise you can see significant improvements in blood sugar control and cardiovascular risk factors in people with the condition.
Further recommendations are:
- Try to exercise on three non-consecutive days each week and should be at least 10 minutes each or longer.
- Moderate- to high-intensity weight training
- Use some form of exercise counseling to adjust levels of physical activity and provide motivation and support.
